About Brotherton Seed Co. Inc.
Since W. Brotherton Seed Co., Inc., was established in 1936, our commitment to quality has enabled us to win the confidence and trust of food processors worldwide. Today, Brotherton Seed represents the experience of four generations of seed producers.
Plant breeders Drs. Ted Lund and John Wamatu at Brotherton's research lab in Moses Lake, Washington conducted nusery operations and field trials in Washington State's Columbia Basin and throughout the US and Europe to pureline varieties and select new lines.
Brotherton varieties are evaluated in trials throughout the world for performance, quality and adaptation. Brotherton Seed operates three production plants in central Washington, shipping nearly 40 percent of annual sales to export markets.
In May 1992, Brotherton Seed Company acquired the total research germplasm and gene pool of pea and bean varieties from van Waveren, our German trading partner of two decades. This gene material - collected during the past 100 years - is proving to be an indispensable addition to our already substantial gene pool.
Recognized for outstanding scientific accomplishments for pea improvement, especially for pioneering work in developing multi-podded varieties suitable for commercial use, Brotherton Seed today is fully committed to an innovative research program.
Our primary research objective is to anticipate the needs of processors with varieties to fit changing quality requirements.
